Nestled in the gorgeous, historic Mancos/Dolores region this is an exceptional wilderness locale. This area encompasses a 17-mile loop hike portions of which include the Colorado Trail, Grindstone Trail, and Bear Creek Trail. The Colorado Trail has wonderful high tundra hiking. Being above timberline, the views of the spectacular San Juan Mountain range are unrivaled. Bear Creek is renowned for beautiful high mountain streams alive with native cutthroat trout. Sprinkled with red cliffs and waterfalls, this is one of the finest most complete sections of the southwest Rockies.

This is a four day basecamp at our wonderful camp in Bear Creek trip. The first day is a 6 mile hike down the Grindstone trail into Bear Creek (elevation loss 1500 ft).
The next two layover days are spent enjoying this beautiful canyon with expansive meadows, waterfalls, and an amazing creek alive with with native cutthroat trout. The last day is the hike out to the starting point on the Colorado Trail with spectacular views (elevation gain 1500 ft.) This trip can be a guided fishing trip by partnering with Duranglers a local fly fishing shop in Durango ( www.duranglers.com) for an additional cost.
